Praia is the capital of the Republic of Cape Verde. The country's largest city is situated on the south shore of Santiago island. It is also Cape Verde's main commercial centre with a port and an airport is just west of the city. The city exports coffee, sugarcane and tropical fruit. Praia also has a fishing industry.
